A crazy leak details the potential return of Robert Downey Jr.
We knew Robert Downey Jr. would sacrifice himself at the height of Avengers: Endgame battle. It was the heroic death we expected for the character in the epic conclusion to the infinity saga. We also knew how much we would miss Tony Stark in future films, just as we would miss Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Captain America (Chris Evans). But that same movie also gave us the tool that would make Iron Man’s return possible. The film opened up the multiverse, showing that variations of our beloved characters could appear in future films. After all, the Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) variants in End of Game came from different periods.
Then Marvel announced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while confirming that the Multiverse would be a Phase 4 theme. Loki, What if…?, and No coming home started exploring the multiverse. Doctor Strange 2 will give us another in-depth look at the multiverse, including plenty of variant cameos from other realities. Additionally, Iron Man has already returned to the MCU; we just missed it – or largely ignored it. It’s because we want RDJ’s Iron Man back in the MCU before anything else.
If the crazy leak that follows is based on real information, we already know the film where RDJ will make his first return in his emblematic role of Tony Stark. In other words, big spoilers could follow below if the leak is correct.
Doctor Strange 2 cameos
Some of the first Doctor Strange 2 cameo rumors claimed in 2020 that RDJ’s Iron Man could return as a variant of the Multiverse. Separately, older leaks claimed that Marvel might be working on another superhero group. The Illuminati could include another Iron Man that Downey Jr. could play.
Fast forward to the second half of 2021, and the Illuminati appear in Multiverse of Madness trace leaks. However, Iron Man wasn’t a member of the team until very recently. A leak claimed that Tom Cruise would play another Tony Stark, whose Ultron drones would aid the Illuminati group. As wild as the claim might sound, Cruise is the alternate Iron Man fans have always wanted to see. But having Cruise as Tony Stark doesn’t qualify as the Iron Man return we want.
It is if Cruise is in the movie, to begin with. A trusted insider said a few days ago that the actor won’t be making an appearance in Multiverse of Madness. This is an important detail to consider when considering the Following Doctor Strange 2 plot leak.
This doesn’t just mention Cruise’s Tony Stark. It also tells us that RDJ will return as Iron Man in the film. None of these plot leaks that we keep showing you can be verified in advance. Additionally, Reddit mods that have endorsed the post office on the Marvel Studios spoilers subreddit the brand as “definitely wrong”.
However, some of these leaks turn out to be accurate. In the past year alone, we’ve seen some real plot leaks for Eternals and Spider-Man: No Coming Home long before the movies were released. They seemed just as crazy at first, as the next leak.
What Iron Man’s First Return to the MCU Could Look Like
Before we get to RDJ’s return to Iron Man, let’s see what kind of Tony Stark experience we could get from Tom Cruise. The actor plays a version of Tony Stark from the Iron Legion timeline, according to the leak. And his Iron Man is supposed to be one of the Illuminati:
Tony Stark isn’t played by RDJ, but in a fun reveal, he’s Tom Cruise. This version of Tony is a little crazy, not only does he claim to be a prophet, but he actually owns 3 of the Infinity Stones.
The way it’s presented mirrors the Green Goblin scene in Spiderman 1, with Tom Cruise speaking to the decapitated Thanos of his world. Tom really gives his all for his brief screen time.
That said, Cruise won’t be the only Iron Man in Doctor Strange 2, according to the leak. And this is where things get interesting.
RDJ’s Tony Stark
If this leak is accurate, RDJ will return to his Iron Man in Multiverse of Madness. Specifically, he will appear in the final battle as a different Tony Stark from a world similar to the main MCU reality. But in this universe, it was Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who died in battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin):
big SPOILER Robert Downey Jr. returns to play an alternate version of Tony Stark. Doctor-Strange is able to make peace with this variant of Tony because they both understand what had to happen in End of Game. (The reverse happened in his universe where Strange died instead of Tony. They all fight Wanda who is literally the most powerful being in the multiverse. – – – – This foreshadows Secret Wars.
Again, this leak comes with clear warnings that it might be fake. That won’t stop die-hard MCU fans from dreaming of Iron Man returning to the movie. Even if it’s fake, the plot leak could be great fan fiction that reads well, check it out in full on this link.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres on May 6, giving us over three months to learn more about the plot secrets.
