Marvel Comics presents an exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man # 74 / # 875, Nick Spencer, Mark Bagley and more.

Marvel Comics gave CBR an exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man # 74 / # 875, Nick Spencer, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley, Marcelo Ferreira and more. In the preview, Harry Osborn / Kindred chats with Mephisto, the former expressing remorse and shame about his recent actions. Harry then asks Mephisto why he chose him. The devil reveals that he was only using Harry to reach, presumably, Peter Parker / Spider-Man.

There may be a connection here to the 2007 “One More Day” crossover, by J. Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada. After the events of Civil war, the revelation that Peter was Spider-Man led to Aunt May being shot. Mephisto then traded his life for Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson. The event turned out to be quite controversial, and there were a lot of theories that Spencer ran on. The Incredible Spider-Man would cancel “One more day”.

In this case, the potential connection to this story lies in Mephisto’s goal: to capture a soul. “One More Day” saw the devil choose not to take Peter’s soul, instead focusing on something more practical. As Mephisto explains in Sensational Spider-Man # 41, someone who sells their soul to help someone else will “suffer in righteousness”. Mephisto adds, “Knowing what is to come, there is still a more than equal chance that I will find your soul, and it is a much more appetizing prospect.” As such, Mephisto, who is not usually associated with Spider-Man, may be looking for the hero as part of a plan, the seeds of which were sown in “One More Day,” to obtain his soul. long term by torturing him with Harry’s return and the upheaval of his life.
