Bob Chapek came out at Disney, replaced by former CEO Bob Iger, who led the company through its greatest period of growth. As people celebrate his return, Marvel fans might want to rejoice. Iger’s return could be less glorious for the Marvel Cinematic Universeat least as it unfolds on Disney+.

Disney+ was one of Iger’s brainchild, like so many major Disney initiatives over the past 15 years. In fact, after announcing his retirement, he extended his stay in the company until the end of the fiscal year in 2021. Thus, even if the mandate of Chapek lasted just over two years, for more than half, Iger was “helping” him as executive chairman. Yet neither Iger nor Chapek were really involved in the creative process; Rather, they define the priorities of the company and let the creative executives get to work to make this vision a reality. Kathleen Kennedy came to Lucasfilm’s attention on TV as a the star wars movies have stagnated. Marvel Studios may have the exact opposite problem – and Iger can focus on Marvel movies.

Disney’s Bob Iger must course correct after Bob Chapek

Iger Chapek

Disney is not in a situation like Warner Bros. Discovery guts HBO Max. Iger believes in Disney+ and it has succeeded by all reasonable measures. Yet when he left Disney, Marvel Studios was on an unprecedented run of critical and box office success. The Disney+ series, conversely, faced the kind of criticism no MCU story has faced since. Thor: The Dark World. MCU movies still top the box office, but not like they used to; by box office mojo, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dropped 63% in its second week of theatrical release.

It could be because Disney+ has changed the way fans see the MCU. Rather than a grand cinematic experience, the streamer has put the MCU into viewers’ living rooms. Over the past two years, Marvel has released more new projects for Disney+ than theaters. Iger could pull the emergency brake on the MCU hype train, telling Marvel to focus less on TV series and more on owning the big screen. And Iger might want more vertical integration with Disney’s other platforms like Hulu or ABC. Marvel Studios makes wonderful cinematic series, but can they do it on a network TV budget or with a network TV tie-in? Iger could make big changes to the MCU’s business plan.

Disney’s Bob Iger Might Just Stay Away From Kevin Feige

Kevin Feige with the Black Panther Wakanda Forever poster and Shang-Chi behind him

What a CEO is worth Actually provides to a company is an open question. However, if Iger has any special skills, it’s because he knows how to manage creative talent — and Disney is a business built on creative talent. There’s no doubt that the endgame for one of these mega studios is to make “all the money”. However, WarnerMedia and Disney’s all-continuous strategy during the pandemic showed its cards too soon. While it offered immunocompromised people a safe option to see new movies, others in the industry saw it as a sneaky way to starve movie theaters at their most desperate hour.

Feige later stressed the importance of seeing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in the halls (by Screen Rant) with the goal of bolstering the 2021 box office with the power of the MCU. The film became the highest-grossing Labor Day weekend release in history, according to box office mojo, and grossed over $430 million. Considering that’s still pretty impressive and that Iger has a reputation as a talent-friendly executive, it’s also possible that he trusts Feige to continue running the MCU as he sees fit.

Iger will undoubtedly make changes to the way Disney does business. It must do so if it hopes to remedy the disasters of the short-lived Chapek era. This could mean the MCU is tightening its purse strings or regrouping to focus more on its big-screen projects, which takes away some of its strengths. But it could also mean Marvel is getting back to what made it a box office giant.

The mcu is still going strong with years of content planned, and a Marvel Studios executive has indicated that there’s no sign of Marvel ending its story anytime soon.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe remains arguably the most popular film franchise in the industry, which remains the case despite more than 14 years after Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man first blown in theaters. The MCUs Stage 4 broken records, with the biggest new series of Marvel content in historytotaling 16 combined projects.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Feige and his team have announced much of their roster for Phases 5 and 6which will culminate in a double dose of epic team rides in Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. And while these two films will bring the Multiverse Saga in the end, there are no confirmed plans for where the franchise will go after 2026, or if it will continue at all once Phase 6 ends.

Thankfully, quotes from a top Marvel producer indicate there’s no end in sight, at least for now.

When will the Marvel Cinematic Universe end?

wonder

During an interview on The City with Matthew BelloniMarvel Studios VP of Production and Development Nate Moore has opened up about how long the Marvel Cinematic Universe could potentially run.

When asked if there was an end in sight, Moore admitted that the team “cannot sit on (their) laurels”, noting the need to keep pushing the boundaries of what the genre and the franchise can do. But, in the end, it feels like the MCU could go on for “a long moment:”

Belloni: “Can Marvel last forever? Everybody in town wanna know, when is this thing gonna end? When will the Marvel movies finally end?

Moore: “I mean, I think it can last a long time. I think we have to continue to… We can’t rest on our laurels. We may not think we have the answers. We have to keep pushing the boundaries when it comes to genre and what we’re willing to explore. But to me, Marvel movies are just movies. Our source material is just… That would be like saying, “Hey, are the movies about the books going to last forever?” Most likely.”

Belloni touched on the idea of westerns and musicals going out of style, which he noted as something that could very well happen with Marvel movies.

In response, Moore noted how “cyclic” these trends are, commenting on how much “great stuff (is) in the pipeline” and how beneficial it was to be able to bring new shows to Disney+. Thus, the studio does not have to “make ten films a year”, what Marvel doesn’t want to do, while allowing streaming stories to come to Disney+ “that (they) did not have the opportunity to say” before:

Belloni: “Well, the westerns are over. The musicals are over.

Moore: “But, they came…it’s cyclical, isn’t it? Things are coming back. I think we can go there for a while. We have a lot of good stuff in the pipeline and stuff that we honestly can’t find room for. One of the great things about Disney+ was that we had to tell stories that were like, “I don’t know if we’ll be able to tell this story.” And now we’re like, ‘Oh, do we have another outlet?’ Because we don’t want to make ten films a year. It’s gonna be bad. Moon Knight, for example. We’ve been talking about Moon Knight for a long time and he just couldn’t make it on the slate because there’s too much going on. But all of a sudden, we have a secondary outlet where we could tell six hours of a cool Moon Knight story that wouldn’t exist otherwise. And I think there are many other properties that we haven’t had the opportunity to tell. So I think it can last a while, forever is a long time. We certainly don’t feel like we’re done.

How long can the MCU last?

Marvel Studios has certainly struggled to get back into the limelight as Phase 4 has made its way over the past two years. Some directors have even outright shared many negative reviews towards the series, some saying that Marvel audiences have become “zombies” with so much content that is so similar to itself.

But right now, it seems there really is no end in sight for Marvel Studios, even after the next two Avengers movies hit theaters in 2025 and 2026. The real question is what exactly awaits us after the fall of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Kang the Conqueror and Doctor Doom?

Now that the x-men are under the umbrella of the MCU, there are a whole list of mutant-related projects that will surely be in the spotlight after the multiverse saga, with Dead Pool 3 being the first of those to arrive in Phase 5 or Phase 6. And fans are still waiting for the next Super Villains to join the fray after Kang and Doctor Doom, opening the door for someone like Galactus to be next. saga-ending antagonist for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to Slay.

But looking at the outcome of Moore’s quotes, fans shouldn’t expect the franchise to see its final days anytime soon, especially as the story brings new content into the late 2020s. .

The MCU will continue with Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrive on Disney+ on Friday, November 25. Phase 5 will then kick off in theaters with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023.

Angela Bassett is, to paraphrase one of her iconic roles, simply the best. A versatile performer, she has worked with filmmakers like Spike Lee, John Singleton and Kathryn Bigelow, playing everything from leading lady looking for love, to several real-life heroes and icons, and a literal African queen.

The best moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, come when the film lets the characters and the audience cry together. Through ceremonies, dialogues or even reminders of previous films, wakanda forever is as much a eulogy for the late Chadwick Boseman as it is another entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for better or for worse. It was inevitable that the film would have to address the gruesome and untimely death of Boseman, who had ruled the franchise as King T’Challa since the character’s introduction in 2018. Thankfully, wakanda forever handles that loss with grace and nuance, acknowledging the mess of grief and anger that can accompany a death as monumental as this. At its best, it’s a heartbreaking, empathetic examination of grief mixed with jaw-dropping action and spectacle. At worst, it is sometimes wrapped up in its own trappings.

Opening with the death and jaw-dropping funeral of King T’Challa, the film wastes no time in paying homage to Boseman. We never see a recreation of Boseman during these sequences (thank goodness). Instead, we see Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright as Queen Ramonda and Princess Shuri, respectively, show us the emotional truths of their characters in those moments, and so we’re there with them emotionally – a masterful choice and respectful from director Ryan Coogler. After this loss, Ramonda and Shuri must contend with a world that wants to exploit Wakanda for its access to vibranium, as well as deal with the grief of losing a loved one. A year passes and we find Ramonda and Shuri on very different paths in their journey with grief. Ramonda wants to help Shuri through her grief and decides to take her to the bush to burn funeral clothes, signifying the end of the mourning period for both of them. Shuri refuses, too angry to let go. It’s here that we meet Namor (Wonderfully Sullen Tenoch Huerta), the leader of the undersea nation of Talokan, who also possesses vibranium. He wants to protect his people from exploitation by the outside world, much like the Wakandans, but Namor isn’t afraid to bleed his hands to do so. This is one of many places where the film’s central tension (similar to that of the first film) comes up – should you burn the world down to protect yourself or find a more convoluted and peaceful solution?

Without giving too much away, the movie leans towards peace, but not without some stunning action sequences, devastating destruction, and plenty of CGI-first use. The use of the show in wakanda forever is both like and unlike other Marvel movies before it: there are times when the CGI can be a little janky, the action scenes a little too long (definitely more of a cinematic universe issue), but the technology and effects really work sings when it needs to. Specifically, when the film reveals Telokan’s incredible underwater utopia, I felt a spark of awe I haven’t felt while watching a Marvel movie in a long time. Seeing the citizens of Telokan hold and glide with the whales, float past each other between their city’s structures, and rally for their miles under the waves was breathtaking and made me feel more optimistic about using future of CGI in Marvel movies in general. Speaking of Telokan, the path wakanda forever respectfully weaves in indigenous language, artwork and culture into the story is every bit as breathtaking as any underwater spectacle. It’s a testament to the nuance and care at work in the film that I couldn’t bring myself to completely root against Namor and his people. Learning and spending time with Namor and the people of Telokan contributed to some of the strongest parts of the film.

Indeed, when the film embraces its wonderful energy through the practical and effective use of CGI, it feels more grounded. Likewise, performance in wakanda forever ground the film in real emotional truth. The main cast of familiar faces, featuring Bassett and Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Winston Duke, take us with them on their transformative journeys in the face of so much loss and change. New cast members, like Dominique Thorne (who is perfect as Riri Williams, AKA Ironheart prodigy), Michaela Coel (brilliant in her short screen time as Aneka, member of the Dora Milaje) and Huerta (brooding, in charge of real glorious goal, sorry Loki), adding new faces and a wider range of emotional stakes to the story.

wakanda forever has a strong foundation and heart but suffers from endemic issues in other Marvel titles. There’s the sometimes janky CGI mentioned above, the overstuffed fight scenes that could have used a tighter cut or edits, and a formulaic structure that can make any Marvel movie predictable, while working against it. . However, these issues are more of a Marvel issue, and when wakanda forever manages to lean into the more authentic, earnest, and nuanced aspects of its story and characters, that’s when it really shines. Luckily, it shines for much of its 161-minute runtime, making for a rare marriage of heart and spectacle that lands perfectly. It also allows us to experience grief in all its complexity, a rare thing in movies, let alone blockbuster superhero franchises. This catharsis alone is worth celebrating after so much loss.

Horror movies are meant to be scary. It’s kinda in the title.

Why is it then that horror history is full of people complaining that certain movies are too much? Why do people pay their hard-earned cash to watch something they know is too violent or gross for them? Look at the posters, people! These are not Marvel movies!

Yet, as long as filmmakers have pushed the boundaries of what’s acceptable in horror, there have been people on the other side who have pushed back. That is, until they get tired of pushing and decide to leave.

Coming out of theaters is usually reserved for movies that are really boring or have Seth Rogen in them and you didn’t realize it. In this case, we’re looking at times when audiences left a movie early because they were too scared, bothered, disgusted, or a combination of the three.

Covering nearly 100 years of cinema, this list chronicles some of the most famous cases of movie theater abandonment and attempts to uncover what drove audiences to the point where they couldn’t take it anymore.

In 1932, a movie that came out shocked the world not with its violence or gore, but by portraying ordinary human beings with disabilities.

Freaks, directed by Tod Browning, tells the story of a woman who joins a troupe of parallel circus performers in an effort to seduce and murder a man with dwarfism to claim his inheritance.

The film’s cast was full of people with real disabilities portraying all sorts of traditional “freak show” performers; a bearded woman, conjoined twins, a strong man, etc.

However, despite being in the center of the picture, many of the actors were made to stay away from able-bodied cast and crew members on set. Some were also banned from seeing the film in cinemas due to staff members feeling “uncomfortable”.

This unease was also present in the film’s test audience, many of whom were unable to complete the original version because it was too “grotesque”. As a result, half an hour of footage was cut from the theatrical release without the director’s consent.

Reading people’s reactions to Freaks sheds light on the stigma people with disabilities faced at the time, which is ironically far scarier than anything in the film itself.

Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe expresses interest in directing an X-Men spinoff movie starring the light-generating, music-themed mutant Dazzler.

almost known director Cameron Crowe recently confirmed that he wants to develop a x-men movie about a specific music-themed mutant: Dazzler.

Crowe expressed interest in directing a spin-off starring the lesser-known superhero in an interview with rolling stone. “Throw me a Dazzler movie! Let’s do it,” he said. The filmmaker named English singer-songwriter Dua Lipa as his top choice to play Dazzler, whose mutant power allows him to convert sound into different forms of light. “Making a movie like that could be awesome,” he added. “You can have character development and all that deep stuff and also have spectacle. You can do that. And it’s clearly going there.” It should be noted that Crowe was speaking hypothetically and there is no indication that Marvel Studios currently has a Dazzler movie in the works.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has announced that a new x-men movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity was in the works in 2019. The announcement came shortly after Marvel Studios parent company Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, the production company that owned the rights to the X franchise at the time. Updates regarding the project have been thin on the ground in the years since, however, Feige assured fans that the MCU debut of the X-Men “came closer” in a recent interview.

The Growing Presence of the X-Men in the MCU

Feige highlighted Dead Pool 3 as an example to come of great x-men characters being integrated into the continuity of the MCU. Dead Pool 3 is the first entry in the series set in the MCU and features Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine by Hugh Jackman to the shared universe. Other x-men crossovers in recent Marvel Studios productions include Patrick Stewart reprising the role of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ms. Marvel enshrining the concept of mutants into MCU canon.

Notably, Nope‘s Keke Palmer is frequently cited as a favorite candidate to play Rogue. For the majority of actors who star in Marvel movies, the roles they play in the films are the most important in their careers and lift them to worldwide stardom.

As of 2022, the 29 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe constitute the highest-grossing film series of all time. Many big-name actors have tried for years to land a role in one of their movies, but one actor actually turned down a role offered to him by Marvel.

Jason Momoa was born in Hawaii in 1979. He is the child of a photographer and a painter. He landed his first acting role at age 19 in Baywatch Hawaii while living and working in Honolulu. Momoa would go on to star in other films and series, but really came into the limelight for his role in Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo. After that, Momoa landed bigger and bigger roles, and fans were shocked to learn that he turned down playing Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

When asked about his decision to turn down the Marvel role, Momoa explained that he was tired of playing the bully, relying on physical strength and aggression to portray his character. Momoa saw himself falling into a pattern of playing the same type of barbarian character, in Stargate: Atlantis, Conan the Barbarian, and of course Game of Thrones. The actor has expressed his desire to be silly, to star in a comedy or romance, or if he should play a bully, either with depth or a soft side.

Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development, Charlie Wendropped concept art of what Momoa might have looked like in the role

After Momoa passed on Guardians of the Galaxy, the role of Drax the Destroyer was handed over to WWE Superstar Dave Bautista. The recently retired professional wrestler had previously appeared in smaller roles in films and series such as Smallville, Neighbours, Chuck and The Man with the Iron Fists, but it was his role in Guardians of the Galaxy that propelled him towards stardom. There’s no denying that Bautista is a perfect fit for the role, and fans loved his character and his acting. Although initially a grumpy, vengeful alien, Drax the Destroyer quickly became a fan favorite due to his humor and inability to flirt or understand sarcasm, loyalty to his family, and tragic backstory. His character is strong and powerful with depth, although David Bautista was exceptional as Drax, Jason Momoa would also have been a perfect fit.

Will Zack Snyder return to the DCU now that Henry Cavill is back?

So what was he doing if he wasn’t playing Drax the Destroyer?

Jason Momoa’s next big role was in a DC movie, he was cast as the lead in Aquaman. Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, a half-human, half-Atlantean who can communicate with the sea among other superpowers passed on to him by his mother Atlanna, Queen of Atlantis. Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman has been praised by fans and critics alike, with the first Aquaman released in 2018 becoming the DCEU’s highest-grossing film.

Regarding his role as Aquaman, Momoa expressed a deep connection to his character and actually participated in writing the script for the second film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, saying “It’s close to my heart.” .

Although some fans still think turning down a Marvel role was crazy, it seems that in Momoa’s case, trusting his heart and instincts worked for him and Dave Bautista, with both actors landing roles that today’s fans couldn’t. imagine someone else is playing.

Fans have been asking for a DC/Marvel crossover for as long as possible. The comics may have already given us a team-up between the two franchises, but the day remains when audiences can see their live-action superheroes battle villains together. The competition between Marvel Studios and DC Studios has made it extremely difficult to see a potential crossover that could blend the two universes.

Raven, Zatana and Scarlet Witch on the cover of a crossover comic

This fan wish could finally be fulfilled with the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new CEOs of DC Studios, formerly known as DC Films. Succeeding Walter Hamada who resigned before Black Adam‘s release, the implication of having a director who occupies an essential place with the two franchises could be the solution.

Nightwing and Spider-Man soar through the skies

james gunn is famous for his leadership of guardians of the galaxy trilogy as well as The Suicide Squad, has now taken the helm of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran. Given that the director has ties to both franchises, insider source Daniel Richtman reportedly said the possibility of a crossover between the two happening is higher than ever.

Nova and Green Lantern fight together in the comics

Richtman also reportedly predicted Noah Centineo’s involvement in black adam like Atom Smasher and has been a trusted source for a long time. The comics have seen many Marvel and DC crossovers, from Hawkeye joining the Justice League to Superman taking on Mjolnir and using Captain America’s shield; the teams were endless. Now, seeing the direction DC could be heading in, it’s very likely that the franchise will shake Marvel’s hand and mix and match superheroes as well as villains.

A Marvel-DC Crossover Could Be Happening, But Do Fans Really Want It?

DC/Marvel Crossover
Red Hood and The Winter Soldier support each other in the comics

Speculation about this crossover is still very new as James Gunn has yet to begin his job as CEO from November 1, 2022. While on the one hand, Stan Lee was the closest to any form of crossover with his cameo in The Teen Titans Go! At the movie theater, there was no interaction between the two multiverses on the big screen.

The fire between the fans of the two franchises is only growing and even though the likes of Kevin Feige and James Gunn would like to see a project like this happen, the conflict between the fans could still prove to be an obstacle. Some call this possibility the best news ever, because a project like this could be much bigger than Avengers: Endgame Where Avengers: Secret Wars.

For now, this crossing is just a slim chance that cannot be confirmed or ignored. The project could be a movie or a TV series and it could be a Justice League vs Avengers project or the two teams could even join forces.

Dwayne Johnson and Jaume Collet-Serra watch the RT scores arrive in real time.

Of all the things to be sucked into the vortex of an endless culture war, one of the strangest is the insistence that the gap between critic scores and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes is either a vast conspiracy, a sign of just how disconnected the so-called elites are from the salty masses of the Earth.

Sometimes this is presented as a political or ideological conspiracy; in this reading, Todd Phillips Joker, a film championed by more conservative audiences, was hammered by Rotten Tomatoes’ “Top Critics” for a low 49% freshness, while audiences praised it with an 88% freshness score. How this effect is supposed to explain the surprisingly similar scores for the global warming parabola Don’t look up (46% of top critics and 78% of audiences) is unclear.

Sometimes it’s presented as a fandom conspiracy, that the critics are harsher on a movie like, say, black adam because it’s a DC Comics movie and not a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and the critics were paid by the Mouse House to give Marvel movies better scores than DC movies. Hence the 59 point gap Between black adam‘s score with top critics and audiences. As a critic who regularly finds himself in the minority on DC and Marvel films, I can assure you that is not the case; Marvel simply makes movies that are more conducive to the Rotten Tomatoes thumbs-up/thumbs-down binary system.

Sometimes this is presented as an international conspiracy, as when Rian Johnson suggested Russian bots had waged war with The Last Jedi, helping to secure that film’s disastrous new 42% audience rating. (Spoiler: that’s not what happened at all.)

And sometimes that translates to… anything. To suggest that “Rotten Tomatoes is actually fabricating fake reviews for the Woman King movie in order to give it a higher rating” makes no sense; RT does not benefit from a film’s audience score. Now maybe the studio astroturfed the audience score, but even then I’d be a bit surprised: to manipulate the verified audience score, you’d have to a.) buy at least 2,500 tickets, then b.) pay 2,500 people to fill new reviews. Possible, I guess – and, frankly, not a terrible outlay in advertising dollars – but it seems more likely that a film that received a rare A-plus CinemaScore simply performed well with opening weekend audiences. (I could venture to guess why the author of this thread believes Top Gun: Maverick got 99% public fee and doubts The female king could have accomplished the same thing and why this thread has gone viral among conservative readers, but I wouldn’t want to make reckless claims without proof.)

So what is the real reason for the gap between audiences and critics? Simply put, it’s that audiences tend to be easier to please because they simply seek out movies to entertain themselves while critics try to judge them artistically. In his new book, Status and cultureone of the things W. David Marx discusses is how art is acclaimed like art. “Invention requires ‘responding’ to the works of previous artists,” Marx writes. Thus, the creation of photography led artists to try to “solve” the problem of a new form capable of capturing perfect representations of reality; hence the rise of cubism and abstract art. “There may be an infinite number of potential problems in art, but to achieve artist status, artists must solve the agreed problems of the current moment,” he writes.

Another way of saying this is that reviewers are looking for something “interesting”; the audience is simply looking to be “entertained”. Sometimes these ideals converge, as they did with Top Gun: Maverick, a movie that solves the problem of flat, weightless CGI action by reminding people what it’s like to really shoot gees and also kept audiences entertained. Most of the time they don’t.

And it’s good ! Not everything has to be part of the kulturkampf.

For what it’s worth, I’m in the critical minority as far as I’ve found black adam both interesting and entertaining. The film’s politics are compelling and slippery, something you don’t usually see in a film of this genre.

Speaking of politics, Dwayne Johnson told Jake Tapper he did not rule out a run for political office in the future. I’m still not quite sure the Reagan/Schwarzenegger path for him is there – Reagan had been the head of SAG in his thirties and was a traveling columnist and speaker in his forties; Schwarzenegger married into a political family and was frequently involved in nonpartisan political programs like the presidential fitness program, but I don’t think it would be crazy to see him ever run for governor.

At the Washington Post this week, I written about the tendency of modern horror films to focus on the idea of ”trauma”. That horror movies are about trauma is kind of a joke at this point, but I think the new Halloween movies and Smile have some interesting things to say on the subject! (This link should get you past WaPo’s paywall.)

On Through the movie aislewe discussed Kanye West’s desire to buy Parler and reviewed Lena Dunham’s Catherine, called Birdy.

CNN’s Frank Pallotta returned to The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood to reminisce over the past few months in the showbiz business.

One thing Frank and I discussed was the fact that horror continues to perform better than almost anything else, at least in terms of ROI, and Terrifying 2 continues its formidable run at the box office this week with a nearly $2.3 million weekend. That’s more than double what the picture did last weekend. It’s a true indie hit of the genre that we don’t see too often.

Director Todd Field is back for the first time in 16 years with his new film Tar; to prepare for it, I suggest watching his critically acclaimed 2001 film, In the bedroom. It’s a film that’s both interesting and entertaining, to use an expression from above. Although probably a little dark for some.
