Dwayne Johnson’s Christmas Action Movie Recruited An MCU Star

It’s been two months since Dwayne Johnson teamed up with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in red notice, which became Netflix’s most-watched film both on its first day and in its first 28 days of availability. The trio are set to reunite for two more sequels, but in the meantime, Johnson has another kind of pink movie in the works. The Rock will star in a Christmas action movie called The Red, and it’s been revealed that Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Evans will be joining him for this Amazon Studios spin.

With plot details still being kept under wraps, there is no information from Deadline on how the Captain America actor fits into the The Red picture. Either way, Chris Evans is the first actor announced to co-star alongside Dwayne Johnson in the streaming feature from an original story by Hiram Garcia, who co-founded and co-directed Seven Bucks Productions with Johnson. . Although Johnson and Evans both made appearances in the race led by Ryan Reynolds free guy last year will be the first time they have headlined a film together.

From 2011 to 2019, Chris Evans starred as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in the MCU, with his tenure ending in Avengers: Endgame. As it was rumored in early 2021 that the actor could return to the superhero franchise, Evans and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige debunked that rumor and Captain America 4 to see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take center stage, we shouldn’t expect that…just yet.

Chris Evans’ other recent credits include The Red Sea Dive Resort, Knives out and the Apple TV+ miniseries Defend Jacob. In addition to The Red, he also co-stars alongside Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas in Netflix The gray man, voicing Buzz Lightyear in Pixar Light year, set to make his musical film debut in the Little Shop of Horrors remake and will play Gene Kelly in a biopic, the last of which he is also producing.

Jake Kasdan, who previously teamed up with Dwayne Johnson on the latest Jumanji movies, sits in the The Red director’s chair, while Chris Morgan, who wrote all of the Fast & Furious movies Johnson has appeared in (as well as 2009’s Fast & Furious) penned the screenplay. Kasdan and Morgan are also attached to The Red as producers, and production is expected to begin later this year.

Again, we don’t know precisely what awaits Dwayne Johnson in The Red however, although Hiram Garcia has clarified that the WWE icon will not be playing Santa Claus. The producer also described the “globe-trotter” The Red as being tonally like “Hobbs & Shaw meets guardians of the galaxy meets Miracle on 34th Streetand will flip many of the mythological tropes and elements surrounding Christmas “on their heads.” The Amazon feature doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but Johnson said it will arrive during the 2023 holiday season.

As soon as more details on The Red come in, we’ll pass them on. In the meantime, Dwayne Johnson will debut as the DC Extended Universe’s version of Black Adam on July 29 (just one of many upcoming movies from The Rock), and we can expect to see Chris Evans in The gray man later this year too. Our 2022 release schedule is available for those of you curious about what other cinematic entertainment is on the horizon.
