Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind officially opens

27 May 2022, 00:25 · Epcot’s first-ever roller coaster officially opens to all Walt Disney World guests this morning.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind offers a Space Mountain-style experience for fans of the Marvel franchise – or anyone else who appreciates a first-class theme park adventure. The indoor roller coaster takes over the former Universe of Energy/Ellen’s Energy Adventure space in what is now the World Discovery area at Epcot.

Customers wishing to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will need to either purchase an individual $17 Lightning Lane pass for the ride or enter Disney’s virtual queue for standby access. Both alternatives will open at 7 a.m. in the official Walt Disney World My Disney Experience app. And both should book up quickly, so make sure everyone in your party is checked in to the app together, then refresh it just before the start time so you can submit your request at exactly 7:00 a.m. . time.

There will be a second chance to enter the virtual queue at 1 p.m., and Disney’s Deluxe Hotel guests can also request to enter the queue at 7 p.m. on nights when Epcot is open for extended hours. evening hours. For the 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. virtual queue entry opportunities, you must have a park reservation for Epcot, and you must be physically in the park for the 1 p.m. entry opportunity.

Note that guests using the paid individual flash lane will miss the Xandar Gallery traveling exhibit in the ride queue. Sure, you’ll have a shorter wait for the pre-show and then the ride itself, but the gallery sets the mood for the rest of the adventure, including some fun lines from the Guardians.

If you want a taste of what to expect in the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, here’s our review of the attraction’s media preview from earlier this month: Ride Review: Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind.

And here’s our preview video of the queue and pre-show, followed by Disney-approved video highlights.

It wasn’t the music you’ll hear on the coaster, though. Riders will receive one of six Guardian-approved “Awesome Mix” songs on their ride:

  • “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire
  • “Disco Inferno” by the Trammps
  • “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine
  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” from Tears for Fears
  • “I Ran” by A Flock of Seagulls
  • “Somehow” by Blondie

I had “Disco Inferno” – which is possibly my favorite song – for my ride in the video above, so that’s part of the reason why I love life there so much.

And the ride itself is the rest of the reason. After posting my review, I posed the question, How does the New Guardians Coaster rank among Disney rides?, if you’d like to see what I – and other Theme Park Insider readers – had to say about it.

If you’re riding Guardians today or in the coming week, we’d love to hear your reaction to the ride, in the comments.
