“Locke & Key” Season 2 teaser shows off a mysterious new key; What is that?
The demons are not up to anything good in the Lock & Key teasing. Netflix has unveiled the final preview for the upcoming season 2 of its magical mystery, preparing fans for what appears to be a wild ride. Of course, the teaser gave a preview of some new and old keys, including an unreleased key at the end. Is the key a nod to Joe Hill’s Lock & Key comic book series or is this an entirely new creation?
[Spoiler alert: The following story contains some spoilers for Locke & Key Season 1.]
Netflix has unlocked a new ‘Locke & Key’ Season 2 teaser with release date
As a reminder, in season 1, Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones) and Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott) discovered several magical keys in their late father’s family home, called Keyhouse, in Matheson, Massachusetts. The more keys they found, the more a demon posing as a woman named Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) attempted to steal them.
At the end of the season, Dodge used the ID key to impersonate Kinsey’s friend Gabe (Griffin Gluck). Meanwhile, she turned Locke family friend Ellie (Sherri Saum) into Dodge. So when the kids thought they threw Dodge through the Omega Gate to another realm, they actually threw Ellie.
The Lock & Key The Season 2 teaser, seen below, shows the aftermath of the Locke kids’ dangerous mission with the Omega Key. Gabe / Dodge and a possessed Eden (Hallea Jones) wreak havoc on Matheson, the Locke children and their friends.
“It’s time to finish what I started,” Gabe said.
The new season looks like a dangerous yet exciting adventure for teenagers. Fans won’t have to wait long Locke & Key Season 2, while the teaser announced a release date: October 22.
What’s the key at the end of the teaser?
The last moments of the Lock & Key teaser show Gabe soldering a new key. When he holds the key in front of him, viewers can see that he appears to have the face of an angry animal, gargoyle, or other creature. Sadly, the teaser doesn’t show what The Wrench can do, but that menacing face doesn’t make it seem like anything fun.
The new key doesn’t appear to be a direct reference to any of the keys from the comics, as none of them have that head. However, it could be an interpretation of the Animal Key, which features a clawed animal paw in the comics. The key turns its user into an animal. In the comics, one of the original key owners has become a cougar, which could be the animal featured on the key Gabe made.
Of course, Gabe could create a new key entirely. Gabriel Rodríguez, the artist of the comedy series, tweeted in June 2020 that showrunner Meredith Averill asked him to design new keys for season 2.
There are still plenty of keys to the comics
Netflix already has the green light Lock & Key for season 3, therefore, fans will likely see a lot more keys. The comics have nearly 40 keys to choose from, should the adaptation decide to use them. Some fan favorite keys are the Timeshift Key, Alpha Key, and Angel Key, but the possibilities are wide open.
Which ones will Tyler, Kinsey and Bode discover next? Hopefully, they find something to combat Gabe’s creepy key.
Lock & Key Season 2 premieres October 22, 2021 on Netflix.
