Marvel fans lament the MCU’s two loneliest heroes
Warning: this article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Path Home.
wonder fans bemoan the two loneliest heroes in the MCU. Phase Four finally kicked off this year, and 2021 offerings began and ended with two of the most popular stories in the entire franchise. Namely, the first Disney Plus series WandaVision – which has been widely acclaimed and awarded with success – and the blockbuster threequel Spider-Man: No Path Home, which broke all kinds of box office records.
But while these two projects saw a surge in popularity for both Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, they put these two heroes to the test as well. VM and No way home might be hugely loved by the fandom, but they left Spidey and Scarlet Witch as the two loneliest Avengers of the bunch. Phase four co-MVPs.
Others are not so sympathetic to Wanda.
Meanwhile, some believe Loki’s loneliness deserves some recognition.
Peter and Wanda had suffered a lot across the MCU before, but their experiences in these two projects really gave them a hard time. For starters, Wanda not only had to lose Vision again, but her children were also taken away from reality. Likewise, the wall-crawler had to say goodbye not only to his Aunt May, but also to his entire life, as the memory of Peter Parker was erased from the world.
The result was that Peter and Wanda’s stories this year ended in exactly the same way, with the two being totally on their own. At least we know that Wanda will soon have some company in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when the wizard calls for his help to repair the multiverse. As to where Peter’s trip from here goes, it’s too early to tell. Certainly at the moment Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch understand the full meaning of the phrase “with great power comes great responsibility.”
